The Practical Driving Test
You can apply for your practical test as soon as you pass your theory and hazard perception test. At Sally’s, we prefer you to discuss the timing of your driving test with your driving instructor before you book it. Sally’s instructors have the experience to advise when to book a practical driving test based on your driving ability.
If you are unable to attend at these times, the Driving and Vehicle Standards (DVSA) can offer the practical driving test outside the normal test times at some test centres. Subject to resources being available, appointments may be available on Saturday and weekday evenings. This is charged at a premium rate.
How to Book a Practical Driving Test
Test appointments are normally booked online. To book a test online you will need:
- A valid UK driving licence
- A theory test certificate number
- A valid debit or credit card for payment
Click here to visit the online booking pages at the DVSA website.
Rescheduling, Cancelling and Non-Completion
A DVSA driving test cancellation or change can be actioned online or by telephone without loss of fee provided you give a minimum of three working days notice. Inside three working days you will lose your test fee.
For reasons of safety the DVSA does not conduct tests in bad light or weather conditions. Another appointment will be arranged at no further cost, but compensation is not payable. If in doubt test candidates should check whether their test will go ahead. Please contact your Sally’s driving instructor and call the telephone number quoted on your driving test appointment letter.
If the driving test is not completed for reasons attributable to you or your own vehicle, you will have to take another test at your own cost.
If you require any special needs facilities at your practical driving test you will need to request these at the time of booking.
