Theory Test Appointments
Before you can book a driving theory and hazard test date, you must hold a valid UK Provisional Licence. You must pass your theory test before you can book a practical driving test.
How to Book a Theory Driving Test
Theory tests can be booked:
- By telephone
- By post

- A valid debit or credit card for payment

Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to midday
A theory driving test date can be cancelled or changed online or by telephone without loss of fee provided you give a minimum of three working days notice. Inside three working days you will lose your test fee.
If the theory test is not completed for reasons attributable to you, you will have to take another test at your own cost.
If you require any special facilities at your theory driving test such as translations, reading or hearing difficulties, you will need to request these at the time of booking. You may need to provide a letter from your doctor or driving instructor.
Occasions when you don’t need a theory test:
- Tractor test
- Test to upgrade from automatic to manual
- Test to progress through the motorcycle categories (progressive access)
- Car and trailer test
- Lorry and trailer test
- Bus and trailer test
- Large lorry test, when you’ve got a medium lorry licence
- Large bus test, when you’ve got a medium bus licence
